Beyond the Gaze, serves as a profound tribute to the lived experiences and diverse narratives of African American and Indigenous women. By intentionally challenging the external gaze, we create a sacred space where these stories are not only told but truly honored, remembered, and celebrated.
We invite the viewer to witness the strength and complexity of these narratives—from the trailblazing leadership of LTC Charity Adams Earley and the visionary entrepreneurship of Madam C.J. Walker, to the artistry of Phillis Wheatley, Elizabeth Catlett, and Jaune Quick-To-See Smith. Through their eyes, we move beyond perception into a lens of sovereignty and respect, ensuring that the legacy of the Black woman is recognized as the masterpiece it has always been."
