We, Carmelia Jeane Scott-Skillern and Elliot G. Skillern Sr., have joined hands to establish CJSS Skillern Family Art Museum. Our journey began nearly two decades ago while serving in and supporting the U.S. Army, where a serendipitous encounter with an article titled "African American Masters" sparked our passion for collecting art by African Diaspora artists. This passion led us to curate a significant private collection, which now forms the heart of our museum in Atlantic Beach, SC.
Our goal is to share the cultural richness and artistic achievements of African Diaspora and First Nations artists with the world. By exclusively showcasing their works, including pieces by renowned artists such as Romare Bearden, Sam Gilliam, Lois Mailou Jones, and many others, we aim to inspire appreciation and recognition for their contributions. Visit CJSS Skillern Family Art Museum to explore these compelling narratives and celebrate the diverse voices of contemporary art.
We'd love to hear from you! Whether you have questions about our exhibits, need more information about our museum, or just want to share your experience, please reach out to us. Your feedback and inquiries are important to us, and we look forward to connecting with you.
